PRO-FAMILY
SUPPORTERS OUTRAGED AS THE WB NETWORK'S DAWSON'S CREEK PROMOTES
HOMOSEXUALITY TO TEENS
HONOLULU, HI
(MAY 31, 2000)--A coalition of national and statewide pro-family
groups have expressed their outrage at Warner Brothers (WB) and
their local affiliates for specifically targeting teenagers with
programs like Dawson's Creek that promote homosexual behavior.
The national
and international groups include: Alliance for Traditional Marriage
and Values, American Family Association, Citizens for Community
Values, Concerned Women for America, Equal Rights, Not Special Rights,
REAL Women of British Columbia, Stop Promoting Homosexuality International,
and Toward Tradition. Statewide organizations include: American
Family Association of Ohio, American Muslim Alliance-Hawaii, Christian
Coalition Hawaii, Concerned Women for America-Oregon, Pro-Family
Hawaii, and Christian Voice Hawaii.
Spokesman Mike
Gabbard, president/founder of Alliance for Traditional Marriage
and Values said, "The Warner Brothers (WB) network, which directs
its programming at teenagers, has made it absolutely clear that
they are determined to convince the young people of America that
homosexual behavior is a good and natural thing. Dawson's Creek,
which is aimed primarily at high school kids and younger, has been
featuring a homosexual love affair between two 16-year old boys
that culminated with TV's first male to male lustful kissing scene
in the show's final episode. The program aired in on the mainland
May 24th and in Hawaii on May 25th, at 5 pm on KFVE-TV channel 5."
The broad coalition
today called for pro-family supporters across the country to denounce
Warner Brothers' and Dawson's Creek's promotion of teen homosexuality.
"It's outrageous
that the WB network and Dawson's Creek are directly targeting
teens to promote their homosexual agenda," Gabbard continued.
"In addition to the blatant pro-homosexual propaganda in Dawson's
Creek, the final episode of the WB's Felicity, which
is directed at the same audience as Dawson's Creek, featured
an extremely favorable portrayal of a homosexual wedding ceremony.
.So here are two of the WB's most popular shows-their season finales,
aired on the same evening-- aimed at teens. In Dawson's Creek
they've got two teenage boys kissing, and have been focusing on
and glorifying their homosexual relationship all season, and in
Felicity, they're glorifying a homosexual marriage."
Gabbard added,
"Dawson's Creek is the worst, in the sense that it specifically
encourages high school homosexual relationships. But the message
from both shows is clear: homosexual feelings and behavior and unions
are natural, normal and healthy. We are calling upon WB affiliates
all around the nation to refuse to air Dawson's Creek in
the future, as long as they continue to promote homosexuality on
it."
"These
are public airwaves," Gabbard continued. "They belong
to the public, and therefore we have the right to stand up and fight
for our culture and for our right to say what we like and what we
don't like. People of faith, and people who don't have these 'Hollywood'
values, need to stand up and protest. We're not going to hand over
the entire culture to a handful of Hollywood homosexual activist
executives. We're not going to let them take over the minds and
values of our children."
Gabbard called
for pro-family supporters to fax, e-mail, or phone the WB affiliates
and station managers in their area, as well as advertisers who sponsor
the program. "This is a very serious issue, with our kids lives
at stake."
According to
the Hawaii Department of Health, there are over 2,000 cases of full
blown AIDS in Hawaii. Over 80% are directly related to "men
having sex with men." Gabbard stated, "It doesn't take
a genius to figure out that homosexual behavior is unhealthy and
the cause of many diseases, including AIDS and a host of other STDs.
It is unconscionable that Dawson's Creek and Warner Brothers
are promoting this dangerous and immoral behavior amongst teens."
"However,
it's not surprising," Gabbard added, "given that Kevin
Williamson, the producer/creator of Dawson's Creek, is a
homosexual activist who has made it clear that his purpose is to
make it so that young people come to accept homosexual behavior
as normal and natural. Essentially, they are using the public airwaves
to promote their radical, political agenda, and now they're going
after our kids."
Gabbard stated,
"In addition to promoting homosexuality, the WB's Dawson's
Creek series has consistently portrayed people of faith, specifically
Christians, as small minded, hateful, bigots. It is obvious that
Dawson's Creek and Warner Brothers are directly attempting
to undermine the spiritual values of the vast majority of Americans,
who do not accept homosexual behavior as being normal or natural.
The pro-homosexual theme drives a wedge between children, parents,
and their priest/pastor/imam/rabbi. What the WB network and the
producers/writers of the show are saying is, 'Don't listen to your
parents and spiritual mentors. We know what is best for you. Let
us guide your life.'"
Gabbard concluded,
"Plain and simple, this season's finale, called "True
Love" (more accurately "True Lust") is irresponsible
broadcasting and definitely not in the public interest."
